"C'mon." He went and kissed her cheek, squeezing her hand a bit before letting go and then going to open the door.
Once they left, they went out down the hall and outside to where all the ships were stationed. The U-Wing in question was already being unloaded, five pristine droids that looked exactly like Kay were being carted off to a computer lab. Cassian followed.
She certainly appreciated the gesture - seeing as how the rest of the day, and probably most of the night was going to be spent working on the new droids. At least she'd be there to assist - hopefully she wouldn't be more of a hindrance.
Again, she followed along at a respectable distance, although she did stop in her tracks to see the droids, identical to Kay, but not ... not nearly the same at all. And these droids would never take his place, but who knew who they could become.
Jyn sighed, and followed along, and hoped that the reprogramming went off without a hitch.
Once they got to the lab, Cassian hooked up the first one to a tablet of sorts and started undoing and going through all its Empire programming. Each of the droids had come in completely offline.
"You can have a seat there," Cassian said to Jyn. Without looking up, he nodded toward a stool.
Immediately, he set to work, and Jyn didn't really know what to do without getting in the way, which was the last thing that she wanted. So, she sat, and watched for a bit, and eventually -
He was in the middle of running diagnostics when she finally spoke up. Lifting his head, he turned to look at her, almost forgetting that she had been sitting there next to him.
It was a big job, and Jyn hadn't expected otherwise. Besides, when it was needed, she could keep quiet and keep to herself at the same time. But she'd feel useless if she wasn't doing something, so she was grateful for the suggestion.
"Of course. They'll be like new in no time", she answered, getting up in order to search for cleaning supplies.
Well, that made her work all the easier, and with her time being dedicated to just the one droid, she could make sure that it looked as good as new when all was said and done. From top to bottom, she'd be as thorough as possible.
By the time she would come back, Cassian would be back to working, hunched over a tablet as he waited to reprogram after the diagnostics. It wouldn't be long now - with this droid, he'd be back to going on assignments, leaving Jyn behind most likely.
And after this, if everything went to plan, probably sooner than either of them would like. But that was life, and that was the time they lived in, and that was what had to be done, and Jyn didn't want to think about that at the moment, so she devoted every bit of attention that she could toward getting the droid cleaned, and making sure the joints were oiled, ensuring that it looked the best it could.
It wouldn't for very long, of course, but that was a given, knowing what sorts of things it would soon be tasked to do, and knowing some of the places it might soon be sent to, along with Cassian, and all she could hope was that it took care of him as well as Kay, that she could trust it to do so.
They worked well into the night and into the early hours before, finally, the droid could come back online. Cassian stretched and yawned as he set the tablet aside and looked down at the droid who would be his partner for the foreseeable future. K2 couldn't - no, wouldn't - be replaced, but Cassian had to move on whether he wanted to or not.
Sure, they took breaks every now and again, but for the most part were kept busy by their respective tasks. It was not easy, of course, doing a full reprogram, but all seemed well when the tablet was set down for the last time. Thank goodness for that - Jyn's back ached, and her fingers were cramped, and all she wanted was to rest and relax for the rest of the night, if at all possible. But first, a heavy, tired smile, however reassuring it could feel. "You're done?"
"I think so," he said, smiling a little in response to hers. He too was tired and could use about 12 hours of sleep. "We'll leave the droid here and come back after breakfast. That way we have the whole day to tweak it."
It would be nice to be able to give Cassian that, but alas, Jyn was not in charge. They'd manage on whatever amount of sleep they managed to get. They were both good at that. "Yes. Best we try to do that after you get some rest. You've been working nonstop for hours now."
"Lets go." He grabbed his jacket that he'd taken off at some point during the night and pulled it back on. Despite the tropical climate during the day, Yavin 4 could get pretty cold at night.
Which made cuddling at night all the more necessary; not that Jyn needed more of a reason for it. "Food, or bed? Or something else entirely - like a breath of fresh air?"
"How about all three?" He said, smiling over at her. He'd been on Yavin 4 for some time now, and had been able to explore some of the paths the Alliance had craved through the jungle. Most of the planet was unexplored, but parts were open for recreational use.
"Hm", she hummed, pretending to mull over the question before offering an actual answer. "I think that sounds good, actually. We should enjoy some time before we go right back to sleep."
He nodded and walked them out through the building before coming outside. It was still dark out but there were several lamps turned on including some in the jungle.
"This way," he said, leading her toward the edge of the jungle.
It was dark and quiet - save for the usual nighttime noises, all the more amplified now that they're outside with the trees and the stars. Jyn was glad to have the chance to really just ... enjoy it. "Right behind you", she said, following closely at his heels. Maybe, if they were lucky, since no one should be out and about at this time, they can be a little more open about showing affection, not that she'd be terribly upset otherwise.
There were guards out - the ones who took the graveyard shifts. None of them paid him - or them, really - any attention because of his rank.
They went to the beginning of a lit path into the jungle. Cassian had his blaster on his hip - he'd had it on all day, but now was a good use for it, just in case. "Want to go on a short walk?"
Also, because if they were out this late, surely it was for good reason. Little did they know that good reason was the simple joy of taking a break.
Jyn wasn't worried nor scared of what the jungle might be hiding. They've faced worse. "Mmhm", she hummed, nodding. "Love to." Honestly? She didn't remember the last time she had a chance jut to enjoy the simple pleasure of nature. Besides that - she's got wonderful company who she'd like to enjoy being with, too.
But once he did, there was no taming the size of her smile. She was more than happy to take their time, walking, and talking, and learning about some of the fauna of the planet. It's sort of what she imagined what a normal relationship would be. And she was adamant upon enjoying every second. "I like the purple ones", she said, gesturing toward the slightly luminescent flowers. "They're so pretty."
"Those, luckily, aren't poisonous," he said squatting down to examine them. Everyone had been sent a report a while back with a full examination of all the known flora and fauna on Yavin 4 and which ones were dangerous and which weren't. He snapped a purple flower off its stem and then stood up so he could tuck it behind Jyn's ear. "They told us we can pick some of the flowers and plants if we'd like, we just can't disturb too much of the environment."
